Signs You Need to Paint the Outside of Your Home

Signs You Need to Paint the Outside of Your Home

There are indeed recommended guidelines regarding how often you should repaint your home. Most homeowners are aware of this. But other circumstances come into play, such as when you do not know when your home was last painted or severe weather. In these cases, it helps to know what signs to look for when inspecting the exterior of your home. Here is what you should keep an eye out for.

Bubbling or Peeling Paint

Damaged, cracked, and peeling paint are not simply cosmetic worries. The paint on the exterior of your home actually provides a layer of protection. Take that away and you leave vital pieces of your home vulnerable and exposed. If left alone, rain, snow and other elements can encourage rot, mold, and mildew. As soon as you notice paint in this condition, it’s definitely time to give your home a fresh coat.

Faded Colors

Over time the sun will start to cause your paint to fade. This is true of any home, but this is especially true in light of the Colorado sun. The fact that we are at a higher elevation means that the sun is much more intense here than in other places. Just like you can burn a lot quicker in the Colorado sun, the paint on your house will start to fade a lot quicker too. If you’re wondering whether the color of your house has faded, an easy telltale sign is look at a part of your house that doesn’t get the sun regularly and then look at a part of it that does. You should be able to see a noticeable difference if it has started to fade.

Cracked Caulking

This is another big sign that your house needs to be repainted. You might not even realize that you have caulking everywhere around the outside of your home. It is around your doors, windows, and in seams. Caulking is very important because it gives your home the waterproof protection that it needs in areas that would otherwise leave your home exposed. When you start to get cracking in your caulking, you’re then leaving your home open to potential water damage that is costly to fix.
